Bill Swick's One-A-Week Guitar Position Studies: Second Position: 40 Songs and 36 One-A-Week Guitar Position Studies

Each volume of the One-A-Week Position Studies is designed to teach intermediate level guitar students the notes in various positions. For a student to benefit from thisbook, it is necessary to be able to read all of the notes in the first position and/or have aclear understanding of reading tablature.Each book in this series begins with an introduction to the position and systematicallyintroduces notes on the first two strings. Students will play exercises and simplemelodies using only those strings. The third string is then introduced and there are moreexercises and songs using only the first three strings. As the book progresses, anotherstring is added until all six strings are being used. In total, there are forty simple,recognizable melodies in this section of the book. This is all preparation for theremainder of the book.Once students have completed the introduction section of the book, they will be ready tobegin the one-a-week portion which consists of thirty-six carefully sequenced studies.These students are all written in common time and use straight eighth notes. The focusis therefore not on playing various rhythms or counting in a variety of time signatures,but solely focused on learning the placement of notes in the given position.There are a variety of key signatures that are commonly associated with each position.It is important for the student to learn which key signatures are associated with eachposition.
